MEN (MEN ENTERING NURSING) IN UNIFORM
In nursing, the uniform has undergone major transformation, to favor comfort and workplace
practicality over the formality (crinoline skirts, anyone?). For better or for worse, the nurse’s
uniform fosters individual and collective recognition, pride, and identity. “Men in uniform”
typically evoke images of military and police forces. Men and women in military uniform call to
mind bravery and sacrifice. Here, we highlight MEN (Men Entering Nursing) in uniform, the
nursing alumni of NYU College of Nursing, to bring awareness of the duty, fidelity, authenticity,
courage, and grace nurses bring to the workforce. MEN in uniform fights side-by-side with all
genders to bring all our patients to safety.
