Gene Durnell, MSN, MBA, RN
Education Committee Co-Chair
Gene has been involved with the NYC Men in Nursing since 2020, as a mentee and more recently as a co-chair of the board's Education Committee. He is currently transitioning to nursing after graduating with his MSN from Columbia.
Gene was attracted to nursing because of the holistic approach to care, and his desire to improve health outcomes for men of color. He brings more than fifteen years' experience in management consulting and finance to nursing. He's led multidisciplinary project teams in several industries, including technology and retail. He helped transform organizations by changing the way his clients thought and operated, acting as a trusted advisor informing strategic decisions.
He looks forward to using his critical thinking, communication, and coaching skills as a psychiatric nurse, and eventually, a psych NP working among underserved communities. NYC Men in Nursing has been critical in his development as a nurse.
