Fidelindo Lim, DNP, CCRN
Education and Mentorship Committee Co-Chair
Fidel Lim is a Clinical Associate Professor at NYU Meyers College of Nursing. He has worked as a critical care nurse for 18 years and concurrently, since 1996, has been a nursing faculty member. As the faculty advisor to various student groups (Asian Pacific-Islander Nursing Students Association, Men Entering Nursing, and the LGBTQ-NSA group) he has, among other things, fostered salience in nursing education through high-quality extra-curricular programming. His work as a nurse educator in a Magnet-designated hospital provides sustainable staff-focused educational support.
He is particularly interested in bridging gaps in nurse engagement and practice excellence. Fidel has published many articles on an array of topics, including clinical practice, nursing education, LGBT health, reflective practice, men in nursing, nursing humanities, and Florence Nightingale. He is a designated Nurse Influencer by the American Nurses Association’s My American Nurse journal.
Gene Durnell, MSN, MBA, RN
Education Committee Co-Chair
Gene has been involved with the NYC Men in Nursing since 2020, as a mentee and more recently as a co-chair of the board's Education Committee. He is currently transitioning to nursing after graduating with his MSN from Columbia.
Gene was attracted to nursing because of the holistic approach to care, and his desire to improve health outcomes for men of color. He brings more than fifteen years' experience in management consulting and finance to nursing. He's led multidisciplinary project teams in several industries, including technology and retail. He helped transform organizations by changing the way his clients thought and operated, acting as a trusted advisor informing strategic decisions.
He looks forward to using his critical thinking, communication, and coaching skills as a psychiatric nurse, and eventually, a psych NP working among underserved communities. NYC Men in Nursing has been critical in his development as a nurse.
